Growing herbs is a simple way to add edible plants to your garden. Most herbs are very versatile and grow well both on the ground and in containers. So if you immediately thought you couldn’t grow yours, we tell you that you CAN! growing herbs indoors really is convenient for harvesting and great for those without gardens. It also extends the season for annual herbs so you will have fresh produce all year round.
Just for your knowledge, there are quite a few herbs you can use in the kitchen, so we will name a few that are the most common. There are general herbs, such as parsley, chervil, chives and tarragon ie., and Provencal herbs, like thyme, basil, rosemary, fennel, wild marjoram (or oregano), bay leaves, coriander and mint.
How to grow them?
Simply sow the seeds on the surface of damp, free-draining seed compost and sprinkle lightly with vermiculite. Cover the container with a clear plastic bag or piece of glass and place somewhere bright and warm for the seeds to germinate (about 18-20º). Once germinated remove the cover and grow on. Herbs need a bright position to grow well. You can treat your herbs as cut-and-come-again crops, harvesting regularly to encourage new growth.

Truth is that even the least professional cook will need to use herbs while cooking the simplest meal. Herbs are the best way to give that special touch to everyday food or to take a dish to another level and really impress your guests (or your better half).
